I made it thru the first day of “Project Kill Jabba” relatively unscathed. Jabba, however, will not go down without a fight. Anna and I both ate clean all day, no refined sugars, cut back on carbs and both hit the gym. Now Anna has been going to the gym 3 to 4 times a week for the past several months and she is on it. The hard work she has put in is showing and I am very proud of her. However, I wanted stated for the record, I think Anna is beautiful just the way she is! I am supporting her decision to exercise, workout and get healthier but, Anna is just gorgeous as she is. Don’t you agree??

Yesterday was my first day back into the gym since, probably September 2017. I have come up with every excuse in the books not to go too. “I have no time”, “Too many people at the gym” etc…. Truth of the matter was, I just did not want to go. It was easier just to go home right after work, plop myself on the couch, turn on the idiot box and chill. Working out, getting in shape, staying healthy, whatever you want to call it, was just too much damn trouble. So I went from a man in his early 50’s in decent shape to this a short period of time:

so,  I made it to the gym yesterday, fully anticipating it to be slam packed of people like me, “The Resolution People”. You know the ones, gonna get into shape this year, hit the gym on January 1 hard, then slowly, but surely, fade away so by the time February rolls around, they have forgotten they have a gym membership. A good joke I heard the other day stated, “I am going to open a place called Resolutions. First 2 weeks of the year it will be a gym then the next 50 weeks it will be a bar.”

To my surprise, the gym was not overly packed so, I went into the locker room, changed into my workout attire and ventured my way over to a treadmill for a warm up. I set a time for 15 minutes to warm up, at my age it takes a little longer for this process. Not an overly aggressive pace of 3 MPH and off I went. About 5 minutes in, I felt this pain in my back. Not unbearable but nagging. I think it was my body going, “WTH! “This isn’t the couch!”, but I kept going. About 8 minutes, that nagging pain became and annoying pain as my body was rejecting this idea of getting into shape. It began negotiating with me, “Hey dude, remember the times we plopped on the couch and did nothing? Good times huh?” I ignored it and kept on going. As I go to the 15 minute mark, I had a good sweat going and my body was happy, “Whew! That is over! Couch and chip time!!” I said “No, no my friend, we are hitting the weight!” My body went into shock! I won’t get into detail about the work out, other than I hit the chest and back area fairly hard. After that, another 20 mins of cardio and the first work out of 2018 was completed.  My body hasn’t spoken to me since that time but hey, I feel great and it will get with the program right?!!

All in all, the day was a success and I feel better for following thru on this commitment to Anna and myself. In the past, what I have found is, once I start working out and become consistent with it, my body starts to crave the workout, much like you crave sweets, cheeseburgers, pizza, etc…. Once you hit that portion of the change, working out becomes much easier and much, much more enjoyable. My son Ethan is in that stage of his life. He is 18 and LOVES going to the gym.  He is in such good shape that he on the side of his high school football team’s trailer. You can tell by the pics below his love for the gym.

Being healthy is a lifestyle change. Choosing to eat right and exercise is that first step in that change. The key is consistency. Eat right every day, if you slip, that is ok, just get back on the program and move forward. Do some type of exercise 3-5 times a week, that can be a 30 minute walk, an exercise class or going to the gym but try to incorporate some type of physical activity to your day. You will thank yourself later for it, I promise. We only have one go round in this thing we call life. Be the best you, you can be while your here. Get healthy because you want to do it, you want to be around for your family and you just want to feel better. Just get off the couch and go for it!

Tomorrow, I will be talking more about eating clean and believe it or not, it is not as hard as you might think! Take care everyone!!

Well, today is the day! January 2, 2018, the day that “Jabba” begins to fade away. I committed myself to start changing everything today because I knew that January 1, I would be sitting on my backside, eating black eyed peas, greens, pork, corn bread and last but not least, mac & cheese. You know, all those healthy items that we all are “supposed” to eat to start off your new year. I also knew that I would not be leaving the comforts of my couch and wife to go workout at the gym and since January 1 was going to be my last official day off from work, January 2nd was set in stone.

The alarm goes off at 5:45 AM during the week and like most of you, I despise that sound. I mean really, how dare this box wake me up from my slumber. Expecting me to leave the warmth of my bed and the snuggles of my beautiful wife! If it weren’t for the fact my cell was my alarm, I would bash it against the wall!! However, after a 5 minute fuss fest in my mind, I get up and head the bathroom to start my day. I begin my day as most of you do I am sure, bathroom, start the shower then brush your teeth while the water is getting hot. After doing the “Morning Routine” I head to get in the shower then it hits me. I need to weigh myself to establish the starting point of this journey to a healthier, slimmer me. I stare at the scale, my old nemesis. We have been at this battle for years. It sits there in the bathroom, mocking me. It knows that I have been bad for far to long. It chuckles because it knows, this battle it will win. One of us will leave the encounter in shame, and it knows, on this day, it will not be the one. I muster up my courage, determined not to let the scale get the best of me. I know I am overweight, it will not tell me anything I don’t already know. So I step on the scale and weight. Maybe I wasn’t fully awake at this time but, as God as my witness, I looked at the scale and it was flashing. “WTH!!! GET OFF OF ME!!!” I step back in awe, that can’t be right!! I have to be imagining this. So, I get myself right back on it, look down and it is waving the white flag in surrender!!! I look down again and it simply states, “Aww Hell no!!” Now, I am really getting ticked!! It is cold and this scale is being a jackass!! So I tell the scale, “Look, just give me the dang number and we can get this over with!” Scale flashes, “WHATEVER”!! then agrees to give me the weight without any other snide comments! Step on the scare and there is it, “253.6” lbs. The starting point has been established!

To start my day right, my wife and I have a great healthy breakfast. One egg, multigrain muffin and cheese. Plus a protein shake to jump start the fat burning process. We prepare a healthy lunch and I have my workout clothes in the truck to head to the gym after work. We all know that there will be 75,253 people in that gym today! I will share with you that adventure tomorrow.

I promised I would share with you the 12 power foods from the Abs Diet today and I am a man of my word. According to the book, if you incorporate at least two of these foods in every meal, your body will begin to burn the fat. We will get more into this later but for now, here is the list of foods!

Make today great!!!

Happy New Year!!

Happy 2018 everybody!! I hope you all had a great 2017 and ready to have an even better 2018. I am assuming that if you are now reading this, you had a safe New Year’s Eve celebration last night. Anna and I went over to our good friend’s Chris and Leigh Harville’s home, had 1 or 2 adult beverages, some great food and brought in the new year in a relaxing way. 2017 was a great year for us but we are expecting 2018 to be the best yet.

Now, as far as killing my inner “Jabba” goes, last night was not a great way to start. Pizza, wings, chicken salad sandwiches (Sam’s Club Chicken Salad is OFF THE CHAIN good)and adult beverages is not really on any “Health” Plan that I know of. Now, if you or anyone you know has knowledge of such a plan, please contact me IMMEDIATELY!! I did, however, get up this morning with a my mind in the right place, ready to tackle this inner tube that has lodged itself around my waist. We took some pictures over the holidays and in each one, I look like the creature that ate Ricky Olmi! I dug thru my dresser drawers and found weapon #1. “The Abs Diet” by David Zinczenko is a great book for anyone that wants to change their lifestyle. I will get into more of this book as this journey goes along. Weapon#2: P90X DVD set located and ready for launch. Weapon #3: Anna has started a support group on Facebook, Sweat&Sass. In this group we will be sharing our successes and failures in this journey. Now to give you a little background on my Anna, Anna is a former fitness competition champion. Guys, you know how that when you were younger and you said, “I am going to marry a fitness model!”? Well, I kinda did!! 20171118_192303.jpg. She has won numerous competitions, placed high in others, worked with some top notch trainers and really knows what she is talking about. She has started working her personal trainer again, not to get back into competitions but, to get herself healthier. She is also going on a cruise in February so, there is that!

I also got fit and studied nutrition but have let myself get back into bad habits but, we are going to fix that!

Today we will be having the traditional New Year’s Day foods, black eyed peas, greens and pork and there is nothing wrong with that. Tomorrow however, we start the journey to fitness. I will share my first day back in the training tomorrow, if I survive, and what is known as the “Abs Diet Power 12” to maybe help you get started! Happy New Year everyone!!!
